A Little Background

My background is an interesting one. Here is the beginning.

My father had a traditional job when I was growing up. When I was around 6 years old, my parents decided to build a house, one of a number of fine homes over the years. They took pride in building a very high-quality home on each occasion. My mother acted as the primary GC which allowed her to thoughtfully make all the necessary material selections for the homes.

I walked the lots with my parents plotting the homes’ sites, what trees to take down and which to keep. Where does the sun rise and set, and how does it impact the home? Home placement on the lot. Front porch or not. Back porch, screened or not. Style of front door. Wall colors, flooring, switch placements. Skylights for natural light? I spent hours upon hours looking at carpet and tile samples with my parents, but also quickly made up my mind on what to choose. These are just a few of the multitude of decisions before even breaking ground that create a home. No two people will agree as to what combination of decisions will create their ideal house. Hard work with thoughtful decisions is the only path to that goal.

As I continue to work with new and repeat clients, a known fact remains…each client has design ideas that they believe are fabulous. I honor that fact by attentively listening during our first consultation and through the entire process. What is important to them? What design aspects excite them? Color, texture, “feel”. I ask myself … how can I create, with the client, an environment that completely fills their soul when entering their spaces. When that is reached, one of my greatest pleasures is satisfied.
