I have loved working with Laurene from Eclectic Design. I happen to come across her advertisement here on Houzz and decided to work with her while building my personal residence in Glastonbury . She has been involved in helping me pick out hardware, lighting fixtures, wall paper and design aesthetics during the building process. Laurene is a master of it all, and she does her job with love and a meticulous attention to detail, which I truly admire. As her client, she is able to steer me in the right direction and is very conscious of my budget. She is able to understand my design idea and builds on it with an end result that is absolutely fabulous. Her work is classic, clean and crisp. I'm a young professional mother of two kids and she finds solutions that are beautiful but also durable. I am also working with her on furnishing my home through her vendors. My husband and I had never worked with an interior designer before but we couldn't have been more pleased with Laurene McGarry both personally and professionally. Rather than telling us how to redecorate our living room, she initially spent well over an hour with us getting to know our style, our thoughts and our hopes for the outcome of the project. L aurene at Eclectic Design has transformed almost every room in our house into polished, inviting chambers each with their own unique character that look beautiful, feel comfortable, and meet our practical needs. Before my wife and I first hired Laurene, I never thought I’d be the type of person to pay someone else to decorate my house because it didn’t seem difficult and therefore I didn’t assign any value to it. However, over the course of ten years (yes, I was a slow learner), after my wife and I made well over $30,000 of decorating mistakes on everything from shoddy, unsightly furniture to window treatments that just weren’t our style to downright ugly area rugs, I finally realized that we were wasting money because we were completely clueless and needed help. Enter Eclectic Design. Laurene started her first project with us six years ago by getting to know what kind of people my wife and I are, which helped guide her to what kinds of decorating styles and colors matched our personalities. We didn’t know why we liked certain qualities of some rooms and disliked aspects about other rooms, but she did. Armed with that knowledge, she effortlessly integrated the concepts of “flow” from room to room and “balance” within and among rooms to help us achieve a harmonious design that looks fantastic and feels inviting. Since that first small project six years ago, Laurene has worked her designing magic in our foyer, living room, dining room, family room, sunroom, master bedroom and bathroom, two other bedrooms and three other bathrooms, as well as the paint color of several rooms and the exterior of our house. She always keeps an eye on our budget and gives us options for price levels, giving advice on when it’s okay to go with less expensive versus more depending on usage, traffic, and other considerations. Laurene is exceptionally professional, incredibly easy to work with, and always makes sure every job gets finished according to our expectations and wishes as well as hers. When contractors are involved, she works directly with them to ensure their work product meets her standards, and she’s not afraid to voice her concerns or push back on them when it falls short. It’s very clear that Laurene has a great passion for what she does. She stays on top of the latest trends (but doesn’t force them on us if it’s not our style), and her knowledge of the interplay between psychology and technical design aspects helps her achieve the right mood for each room. My wife and I feel very fortunate to have found someone as knowledgeable, friendly, and professional as Laurene to help us feel proud of our home.
