The Malabar chair, sofa and ottoman, popular in the 1980s and 1990s, and pictured in high-end magazines for years, take center stage in this formal living room juxtaposed to New England and French antiques. The soft lines of the rattan keeps the room from looking too stuffy. The brass Moroccan tray was professionally cleaned and coated and placed atop an ottoman smartly slipcovered to serve as the coffee table. The beloved antique settee fabric was the inspiration for the colors in the room, with the custom purple drapes being a hint of the unexpected. Inspiration for the wall color came from the Spode Imari tea set in the display cases, and the cue for the custom purple drapes and purple glass accents came from the artwork above the fireplace.
